Man on Wire

I was finally able to see the film Man on Wire.  It is a documentary-heist film about how Philippe Petit, a french performance artist, tied a cable between the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers, and walked across it for the performance of a lifetime.

The thing that I hear a lot of people talk about in this film is the re-creations.  It gives this documentary so much more of a filmic quality to it.  It would actually be really interesting to see a narrative film take on this style.  If it happened, I don’t even think people would call it “documentary style”

I plan on inserting a very small re-creation clip into my busing piece for this semester.  One of the interview subjects talks about meeting with Ted Kennedy about the busing issue, and how he completely ignored them while playing tic-tac-toe on a piece of paper.  My only concern is that with a single re-creation, that people might get confused.
